Information evening - Tuesday 20th October 2015

It was lovely to see the enthusiasm and excitement from pupils and parents alike at our Information Evening.  Thanks to Mrs Prince for organising all the paperwork and offering to accompany the trip.  A male member of staff will also be accompanying us.

DOCUMENTS AND LINKS

All documents relating to the exchange are available online in the French Exchange Folder within the Languages Fronter room.  Pupils will need to enter their log in name and password to access the files.

They include:

PowerPoint presentation
French Exchange information
Health and Safety on the French Exchange 2015-16
Recommended items to take
How do you get to school - Transport details
Useful Phrases (phrases utiles)
Toilets in Paris!!

AUDIO PREPARATION

A GCSE Module 1 booklet was also handed out.  The mp3 audio file which contains most of the phrases is downloadable on Fronter here. (It takes about 20 seconds to load)

If you have mislaid the booklet, please ask Mrs Prince for another one.  It is not available electronically.

PARTNER INFORMATION

Pupils received details about their partners.
Here is a document giving translations of the questions and letter guidance.

ACTION!

PUPILS:

(1) Write a letter!

Reply to your partner's letter in writing and send it to their home.  This way you have each taken the trouble to write a letter!  Later, feel free to contact via email / electronically.  (They may have Facebook etc.)

Use the booklet I have given you to help you.  If you use Google translate, make sure it is accurate!  Always copy the French into a box and translate in BACK into English to see that it has worked!  I strongly recommend linguee for making sure that phrases exist / are accurate and wordreference for individual words.

Include the following:

INTRODUCTION
Greeting - Cher Daniel, Chère Anne
Thanks - Merci de ta lettre.
Opinion - C'était très intéressant!

ANSWER QUESTIONS
Answer the questions

GIVE INFORMATION

Faites une description physique de vous-même et de votre personnalité (timide, bavard, sportif, drôle, extraverti, sérieux etc)
Do a physical description of yourself and of your personality (shy, chatty, sporty, fun, extrovert, serious etc)
Faites une rapide description de votre famille
Do a quick description of your family
Ce que vous prévoyez faire avec votre correspondant pendant son séjour
What you plan to do with your partner during his/her stay
Qu'est-ce qu'une soirée typique pour vous

What a typical evening is like for you
Vous pouvez terminer votre lettre par quelques questions qui vous aideront à découvrir votre correspondant.
You can end your letter with some questions which will help you to find out more about your partner.

(2) Practise at lunchtime!

Consider coming to the Thursday lunchtime preparation sessions I will be running in B25, 1.25 - 2.45 November 5th, 12th, 18th, 25th

I am planning to do the following:

18th: Home Life (2) (Sections H-K At the table, being helpful, asking about routines, being polite)
